Blackberry BBQ Sauce

File this under: ,

It’s summer time in Missouri! Finally! It seemed like the cold would never go away. At the start of June we had a morning where it was 50ish degrees. What? June, were you broken? Things seem to be good now and we’re getting lots of local, fresh berries showing up at the store. My favorite are the blackberries and blueberries. This recipe works well with either of those berries but for our purposes I wanted to do blackberry this time around. I worked with my buddy Jake to use this sauce and some shredded Beyond Chicken to make a BBQ chick’n pizza. It was delicious. I also ended up making a quesadilla just mixing this sauce with the leftover chick’n. Also really good. Have fun with ya fruits this summer! Don’t limit them to just desserts and breakfast.

Total Time to Prepare: 1.25 hoursCooking Time: 1 hourServes: 3-5

  • 1.5 cups blackberries
  • 3 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tsp smoke paprika
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 1.5 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup yellow onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt

  1. Put all ingredients minus 1/2 cup of water into a blender. Blend til smooth.
  2. Transfer to medium size boiling pot. Use the remaining 1/2 cup water to clear all the leftovers from the blending container.
  3. Add that to the pot.
  4. Bring to a boil, reduce to low, cover and let simmer for at least 30 minutes. Stir occasionally.
  5. Enjoy in any way you would typically enjoy BBQ sauce!
